Using the Makita GAU02Z pole saw is quite straightforward. First, adjust the telescoping shaft to the desired length between 9 and 13 feet according to where the branches are. Then, make sure the chain is properly tensioned using the lateral chain tensioner with a single stud. Next, check the bar oil level in the translucent tank and refill it if needed through the large opening. Before starting, put on the included pole saw harness for better control. When you're ready, start the saw and begin trimming branches. The branch hook can be handy for pulling down the trimmed branches. As for safety, be aware that the Active Feedback - Sensing Technology (AFT®) will turn off the motor if the attachment's rotation suddenly stops. Always wear appropriate safety gear like goggles and gloves. For maintenance, keep the bar and chain well - lubricated. Check the chain tension regularly. The captured bar nut in the sprocket cover makes it easy to disassemble and clean. Store the saw in a dry place to take advantage of its IPX4 weather - resistant construction and Extreme Protection Technology (XPT™) that protect it from dust and water. When charging the battery (not included), use the XGT® Rapid Charger (also not included). The charger's digital display will show you the battery charge level, and its built - in chip ensures efficient charging.
